Differences the Internet vs the Web
There are several confusions about internet terms. Unfortunately, the easiness of pressing share button created several confusions and regarding the internet.
It is very easy to find terror histories and conspiracy theories about the deep web and the dark web only because of the name "deep" or "dark". The deep web is nothing illegal nor secret; moreover, we all use the deep web quite often (as will be explained by future posts).
Before explaining the deep web or the dark web, it is important to provide some basic information about the internet and the web. There are important differences between the internet and the web, and this post will summarize them.

What is the internet?
The internet is the network that connects the computers. It began in the late 60s with the creation of ARPANET. ARPANET allowed certain research entities and universities to remotely connect their main computers from a long distance.
A few years later, ARPANET evolved into the National Science Foundation net (NSFNET), which allowed all the universities to be connected together.
Then, it was in the early 90s when IT industry created commercial networks able to connect to their existing networks. Those several networks began growing as new networks joined them into this huge network known as internet.
Every time you connect to the internet you become one connection added to this network.

What is the web?
The web is the software running on the internet providing us a way to navigate and share data and information across the internet.
When we use a browser such as Chrome, Opera, Safari or Firefox, we are using the web. I mention this because the web is not the only way to share information across the internet; it may be the easiest, but it is not the only one. This note will be important for future posts about the difference between deep web and dark web.
